Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2024

Embracing First Nations Heritage

At Douglas Partners, we are proud to celebrate and honour the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

From July 7th to July 14th, Australians come together to recognize and participate in the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

NAIDOC Week has its roots in the Day of Mourning on January 26, 1938, when over 1000 Aboriginal people gathered to demand full citizenship status and laws to improve their lives. This historic event has grown into a national celebration of First Nations people history, culture and excellence.

Our Commitment to Reconciliation

Our recently launched Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a testament to our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and fostering strong relationships with First Nations communities.

As part of this initiative, we commissioned a special artwork titled “Connection” by Peta Maree McDonnell from our Townsville branch. This artwork embodies the essence of self, family, and employment’s link to the community, incorporating our core values of People, Integrity, Improvement, and Excellence. Each of our branches proudly displays this artwork, and it features prominently in our RAP brochure.

Board Members’ NAIDOC Celebrations

Our board members recently explored sacred tribal lands and waterways on the Sunshine Coast with Biral Tours, in honor of NAIDOC Week. Chris Kline, Principal, Geotechnical Engineer and Director shared his experience from the tour:

During our recent visit to the new Sunshine Coast office and lab, the directors and company secretary participated in a cultural and spiritual tour with Udjeee Tais of the Undumbi tribal people on lands of the Kabi Kabi Nation. We learned about the traditional custodians of the land, their stories, practices, and values, and how they have cared for the country for tens of thousands of years. The tour was a valuable and inspiring experience that deepened our understanding and appreciation of the diversity and richness of the First Nations culture and strengthened our reconciliation journey.”
