Graduate Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist

West Ryde, Sydney NSW

What the role is

Our West Ryde office is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist to join our Sydney team. In this role you will complement our consulting group so that projects continue to run efficiently and effectively, thus ultimately maintaining clients’ satisfaction.

Some of the practical geotechnical activities in the field include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct field investigation work, including logging of boreholes and test pits, and operate specialist equipment to help assess ground conditions using ‘best practice’ methods;
  • Assist in the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of geotechnical instrumentation, including the data collection from instruments such as piezometers, inclinometers, and settlement gauges
  • Manage a variety of subcontractors (such as drilling rigs, CPT rigs, service locators, etc), and be responsible of the successful completion of the work within allotted timeframes and budgets;
  • Use QGIS, Slope W and other specialised software to analyse projects and determine solutions;
  • Adhere to relevant Work Health and Safety requirements;
  • Prepare proposals by scoping investigations to target project outcomes and client requirements;
  • Engage in technical report writing.

 

Given the variety of project work available throughout the year, there is a mix of field work and office-based time.

 

About You

  • Bachelor Degree in:
  • Engineering – Civil, Geotechnical; or
  • Sciences – Geology
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in field investigation techniques and equipment operation.
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate project activities effectively.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software tools such as QGIS, Slope W, etc.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to construction sites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client interaction.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret and analyse complex data.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Australian driver’s licence
  • Enjoy working onsite and in the office
  • Interest in continued learning and building your career in the geotechnical / environmental / groundwater and earthworks in the civil field.
