A Celebration of Expertise, Collaboration, and Trusted Advisory
Each year, Douglas Partners brings together engineers and scientists from across our 19 branches in Australia for our Annual Technical Seminar—a cornerstone event that embodies our commitment to technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
With over 60 technical presentations, this year’s seminar showcased the breadth and depth of expertise within Douglas Partners. From geotechnical engineering to environmental science and hydrogeology, our professionals delivered cutting-edge insights and shared innovative solutions that reinforce our position as trusted advisors in the industry.
A Commitment to Trust, Integrity, and Quality
The theme of this year’s seminar, “Trusted Advisors”, underscored the values that define Douglas Partners—client trust, integrity, and the highest quality in data and advice. As engineers and scientists, we play a pivotal role in helping clients navigate complex geotechnical and environmental challenges. Whether it’s designing sustainable infrastructure, mitigating environmental risks, or conducting advanced ground investigations, our ability to deliver reliable, data-driven insights is what sets us apart.
Recognising Excellence: The Don Douglas Award
A highlight of the seminar was the Don Douglas Award, presented to the best technical presentation of the event. This prestigious award recognises excellence in technical communication, problem-solving, and innovation—qualities that define Douglas Partners’ approach to consulting.
This year’s Don Douglas Award winner, Nizam, Environmental Engineer, presented an insightful case study on the Ginninderry Regeneration Precinct Project, detailing the design and implementation of a 2.5km passive landfill gas extraction system. His presentation provided a glimpse into the complex regulatory landscape, innovative testing methods, and engineering ingenuity required to ensure sustainable land use.
As a reward, Nizam will have the opportunity to attend an international industry conference of his choice.
Other outstanding presentations were also recognised:
- 1st Place: Claire, Hydrogeologist – Discussing groundwater impact assessments in large-scale urban developments and the role of data-driven decision-making.
- 2nd Place: Dana, Environmental Engineer – Showcasing how expertise, clear communication, and a client-focused approach led to a strengthened partnership and long-term collaboration. This case study highlighted Douglas Partners’ ability to navigate complex projects while fostering strong relationships and delivering trusted advice.
- 3rd Place: Peter, Engineering Geologist – Highlighting case studies of landslips and rockfall hazards in the Sydney Basin, reinforcing our role as trusted advisors in geotechnical risk assessment.
- Most Informative Presentation: Rhys and Jun, Geotechnical Engineers – Explaining the latest updates to site sub-soil classification for earthquake design and its implications for clients.
These presentations exemplified the depth of technical expertise within Douglas Partners and our ongoing contribution to advancing engineering and environmental best practices.
More Than Just Technical Learning
While the seminar is a hub for technical knowledge-sharing, it also serves as an opportunity for colleagues across Australia to connect in person. With teams spread across 19 branches, face-to-face interactions are invaluable—not just for socialising, but for exchanging ideas and collaborating on future projects.
The event also recognised key milestones, celebrating employees who have reached 10, 15, 25, and even 30 years of service with Douglas.
Looking Ahead
The Annual Technical Seminar is a testament to Douglas Partners’ unwavering dedication to professional growth, technical excellence, and the collaborative spirit that defines our culture. By fostering an environment where knowledge is shared, expertise is recognised, and connections are strengthened, we continue to enhance our capabilities and reaffirm our reputation as industry leaders.
As we reflect on the success of this year’s event, we look forward to another year of innovating, solving complex challenges, and upholding the trust of our clients and partners across Australia.
