Nicola Warton, an Environmental Scientist from our Sydney office, was invited to speak at the UNSW Open Day recently. She spoke to a lecture theatre of over 200 prospective students and their families about her career as an environmental scientist and her work with us, expanding on some of the opportunities a science degree can enable you to pursue.
Nicky shared her own personal journey as to how she came to study environmental science, to becoming part of the team at Douglas Partners as well as her overall passion for the industry:
“Since the beginning of last year, I have been working as an environmental scientist at Douglas Partners. In this role, I have been trained as a new graduate and have been working on contaminated land projects. As consultants, our role is a valuable one, as we seek to provide advice on the remediation of sites to make them suitable for use. The projects range in size from small residential blocks to large government infrastructure project. My job involves a mix of both office and site based work across Sydney. This gives a huge amount of variety, keeping it very interesting!”
Following the lecture, a short segment of Nicky’s story was filmed to be published by UNSW to encourage more students to consider taking STEM pathways.
